Thursday, June 21: “Faces of Science”

CFI is organizing a group visit to the National Academy of Sciences for Faces of Science, a photo exhibit of great scientists by renown photographer Mariana Cook. Each portrait is paired with an autobiographical essay explaining how each became intrigued by science and the influences that guided them to a particular field. National Portrait Gallery Assistant Curator of Photography Frank Goodyear will lead an informal discussion. Cook is a protégé of Ansel Adams, and her works are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in addition to the National Portrait Gallery.

Time: 5-7 p.m., National Academy of Sciences, Keck Center
500 Fifth St NW, First Floor Gallery. Photo ID Required.
We will gather at 4:45 p.m. in the lobby. RSVP by June 19th.


Sunday, June 24: Summer Solstice Picnic

You are invited to a Summer Sun Celebration! The CFI-DC Branch and Office of Public Policy are hosting a summer picnic to kick off the summer with like-minded folks.

DC Cable viewers will soon be able to see
a weekly humanist television program

"The Humanist Perspective" is a half-hour weekly television program produced by the Council for Secular Humanism at the Center for Inquiry-Transnational in Amherst, New York. The program features interviews with leading humanists discussing often controversial topics.

DC public access television will carry the series called “The Humanist Perspective” beginning in January and running for 13 episodes. The program will be broadcast on both cable venders in DC, Comcast and RCN. Tune in every Monday at 8 PM beginning January 8, 2007 on channel 96 for Comcast customers or channel 11 for RCN cable customers.
